Natural Materials, Lots of Color
A herringbone-marble refresh that turned a tired kitchen into a warm, light-filled family room.
A dated kitchen with good bones and not enough light. The homeowners didn't want to rip the whole thing out — they wanted it brighter, warmer, and more interesting. We kept every cabinet box, refaced and refreshed, and added a hand-laid herringbone marble backsplash that turned the whole room into the warmest space in the house.
The Challenge
The cabinets were structurally solid but the backsplash was dated and the color palette read as beige-on-beige. The homeowners wanted natural materials and a real pop of visual interest without overwhelming the space.
Our Approach
Refaced the existing cabinets in a creamy shaker profile, repainted the trim for brightness, and specified a warm travertine-veined herringbone backsplash that works with the existing granite counters. Under-cabinet lighting was added so the marble reads at its best morning through night.
The Result
The herringbone is the moment. Every guest who walks in pauses at it — it catches light all day long, plays against the warm wood floors, and gives the whole room a sense of layered texture that no flat subway tile could.

Designer's note
“The herringbone wasn't the cheapest option — but it was the only one that was going to matter in ten years. Natural materials don't go out of style.”
